What to log in a casino session

Tracking guide · 1 of 4

A session record is complete when it can answer one question without guessing: what did the trip actually cost, all-in? You do not need a play-by-play of every hand to get there — you need five kinds of entries, written down as they happen. This guide walks through each one; all five map directly onto entries dealt.win records, but the checklist works just as well in a notebook.

The five entries of a complete session

With those five, nothing else is needed — the arithmetic does the rest.

Why every bet, not just the ending

Writing a single number at the end of the night — "up 180" — records a fact but loses the session: how long it ran, how the swings moved, where the result actually came from. One tap per result at the amount you had out takes seconds at the table and keeps the whole shape.

In dealt.win the Bets tab is that tap: pick the chip you had out, mark the result. The quick-log grid on the home screen follows your latest game, so the common case is a single tap without opening a sheet.

Buy-ins and cash-outs are their own lane

Rebuys are part of play, but folding them into the running result mid-session is where records fall apart. Keep them as their own pair: every buy-in and every cash-out logged as table flow, and the running position is simply cash-outs minus buy-ins — readable at a glance, never tangled with the game results.

dealt.win's Table flow tab tracks exactly that, as a separate running position next to the Bets tab.

Five entries, one number

When the session ends, the arithmetic is mechanical: the game entries net out to the session net, costs subtract, comps add back. What remains is the all-in net — the number that matches your wallet.

Example: a night that nets +180 at the tables, with 22 parking, 48 dinner, and 15 in dealer tips, plus a 30 comped meal, lands at an all-in net of 125 — 180 − 85 + 30.
